Chevy Youth Baseball Tournament

Last Saturday, was baseball day for us.  Carter's league had a round robin tournament and each team would be playing a series of 3 games.  We packed up all our gear and headed to the fields for 8 hours of fun.  It was a scorching 99 degrees, but that didn't stop the fun.

Their first game was against one of the few remaining undefeated teams of the season.  The boys were ready for the challenge and gave it their all.
They played some amazing baseball! They were all consistently hitting singles, doubles, and triples which kept the runs coming in.
And their defense was on FIRE! Such exciting plays.  Twice the catchers made outs on foul balls- hurling off their masks and making the running catch.  carter was one of them and has been rehearsing his whole life to make that play.  There were sliding catches on their needs, great nabs in the outfield, and strong throws and catches at the bases.  The coaches were amazed.  In the end, they shut out the other team 10-0.  Unbelievable!
It was going to be a wild day of baseball :) I wish i could take more pictures, but I am the book/score keeper for the games and have to follow every play and batter.  It's really tough to take pictures at the same time, while fielding Julia's requests, too.

We headed back to the tents for lunch and rest.  Everyone enjoyed eating while watching the next game being played. This picture made me stop when I saw it.  Suddenly Carter looks so old...
Carter and Dante chillaxin.  Can you believe Carter is laying still?!
Poor Julia was such a trooper through it all.  She has spent her life at Carter's sporting events and still takes it all in stride and roots on her big brother.
They went on to win the next game, too and were headed to the championship game at the end of the day. The anticipation was building all afternoon as everyone waited for game time. Everyone's skills were clicking and it was definitely going to be a great game.  Unfortunately, the weather didn't cooperate.  Five minutes before game time a summer storm popped up with thunder, lightning, and downpours.  The decision was made to call the game.
Sadly, the schedule does not allow for a rematch.  I think the adults were more disappointed than the kids.  Our boys were poised to beat the reigning coach in the league.  We couldn't wait to see them take on the challenge.  But it wasn't meant to be.

We may never know the final outcome, but we know our boys played with all the heart, teamwork, and ability they could find that day.  So proud of you guys!
