This is the first year Julia is really aware of what Christmas means and she's new to all the traditions. Carter anxiously awaited the first of December to start the Advent calendar. We have a box with a nativity scene on it- each door is an animal, person, etc. The first morning we sat down with it, Julia was very upset she couldn't pick the door she wanted to open. Oh, brother. Poor Carter tried everything to get her excited about opening the first door. No luck. She still cried whenever we brought it up all day long. Fortunately I can say day 2 was much better and we've got 23 more days to practice :)
While we were in the car today....
Me: "Guess where we're going on Friday...Candlefest. They have 4,000 candles all lit at the same time! Who do you think they light the candles for?"
Julia: "Aunt Beth's birthday?" (great guess, Saturday is her birthday, but she's 30, not 4,000)
Me: "No."
Carter: "Jesus' birthday?"
Me: "Yes!"
Julia: "Will Jesus be there?"
Me: "Well, yes Jesus is everywhere, but I don't know if we'll "see" him."
Silence.......
Julia: "Mommy, I see two flags a-wigglin!"
Phew, saved by the distraction. Faith discussions with toddlers can be never-ending......
