The first full day we went to the Air & Space Museum. The kids were all so excited to be together. Well, most of them. In the first few minutes of our visit Julia lost it- "middle child syndrome" hit her hard. This picture sums it all up. Not one of the little ones and clearly being left out of the triplet trio. Poor JuJu......
The 'How Things Fly' exhibit is one of the kids favorite parts because it's all hands on. Here they are trying to catch the world when it falls......

Off to check out the planets. This was a great teaching review for us. This exhibit compared all the sizes of each. Then we walked through the solar system planet by planet. It was a learning experience for all of us. Our universe is so enormous, its hard to comprehend. Did you know that Uranus and Neptune are so far away that we sent space probes there in 2006 and they will not arrive until 2015!! And that's just our solar system! The universe is thousands of times bigger.
By the second day everyone was a little tired from all the activity and excitement. Of course the one morning all four of them sleep in, the Marines decide to have parade practice at 8 am sharp.....in the snow nonetheless!! As you can see they weren't quite ready to get up, so they all piled into one bed for some cuddle time.
Though it is really cool to get to look out your window and see the Marine band practicing in formation. It is moving to hear that music. What a great way to start the day.
The kids are all metro pros and travel with ease. Its such a great system! Our favorite stop is....

Julia was still in a funk on day two and was running away. Apparently she's decided to 'take it to the Hill'.

This is the first time they discovered the sound of the ocean in the shells. Their faces were so sweet....
Now they listen to everything. Tonight it was strawberries!They had a really cool light table with animal, plant, and machine xrays. the kids were fascinated....
After lunch we spent a long time in the insects. There was an entomologist on hand letting the kids hold all kinds of huge creatures. And they all did it. Then we went to see all the mammals from different continents. It's a great chance to see all the animals up close and personal. Before we left, we had to stop in and see the dinosaurs. this little diorama is one of their favorite parts. We had a frank discussion the first time about plant-eaters and meat-eaters, the circle of life. Julia always tells them through the glass, "It's not nice to eat your friends!"
